Some airlines recognize domestic partners and some don't, it all depends on the agreement your airline has with the operating carrier.
Basically the zed fare has three levels, low, medium, and high- low being the cheapest and high being the most expensive. Each level has zones and these zones have a fare, the lower the zone the lower the fare. You usually go to your employers ticket counter buy a fare then you call the operating carrier to list. Some airlines dont accept calls anymore and you have to list on-line (AA, BA, AF, B6 CO, etc etc).
