Question UA ’s new Pass Policy

Word around the gates is that UA has changed it’s buddy pass travel policy due to abuse of the system.
I’m hearing changes affect buddy pass travel to Hawaii, Alaska and foreign travel

Would someone like to throw some light on the subject?

Yup. Now buddy pass riders have to be listed a few days in advance, and any buddies going outside of the 48 have to be accompanied. Granted, that accompaniment can be done by the employee, spouse, parents, kids, even extended family I believe (parents in law, siblings, etc). But still, our buddy pass system has always sucked and it's even worse now. That said, we do have the option to exchange our buddies (extended family draws from the same pool and stays intact) for an extra "enrolled friend" - basically someone who gets the same benefits as a spouse, but without the ZEDs and the IRS sees it as a taxable benefit.
