    Hi Peter,

I'm so glad I found this site because we are a little clueless on a few things. i'm going, with other 2 Nonrevs, to India and then to Dubai, for 4 days each. We have the Idia thing kind of all settled; but as for Dubai, I can't find much info on the web. Can you give us suggestions on where to stay and what to do? Someone also suggested us to do a day trip to Oman from Dubai... is this possible, safe (and I mean the roads, long desert travel, etc; We are not concerned of security for US cit., I travel a lot and I know Dubai is probably safer than NY... .

I will appreciate very, very much your comments.

PD: we will be staying in India from 10-14 may, and 14-18 may in Dubai (or anywhere in UAE).

Welcome Vale, always nice to see another member of the silver fleet on board.
You might want to post your question to Peter in his correspondent's thread, that way he'll get e-mail notification.

    hello
it depends what you would like to do in dxb and how much money you want to spend. hotels in downtown dubai or on sheik zaed road(but they have transfers to a beach club) are cheaper than those on jumeirah beach. you also have to be aware that many hotels tell you, that they are in dubai, but they are 1,5 or 2h drives away in another region like fujarah oder sharjah(att in sharja you won't get any alcohol-even in hotels). also i should mention that at the moment there is a lot really lot of construction going on in dubai. i have never gone by road to oman, but i would say its save and the roads are in a good condition. what to do in dxb?there are a lot of shopping malls if you like to shop, very nice is also the sundowner tour into the desert, if you like waterslides wild wadi is the place to go. at the gold and spice souk you will find a lot of "look look cheap cheap-come in"! traders...my personal secret hint is "the irish village" its a pub in a public park and very nice to seat outside and have a couple of drinks...
hope this gives you a short overview, if you have any further questions just ctc me

    Vale,
You could do the day trip to Oman however as its at least 4 hours each way it would take up all of one of your 4 days. Where you stay in dubai depends a lot on what you want to do there .. you can check out www.dubaicityguide.com for lots of info.
As osflyer says the rates at the beachfront hotels are still expensive at this time of the year. It also worth noting that the air and sea temperature at this time of the year are quite oppresive ( if you are not used to it ) so you will want air-conditioning and a cool pool so you may not need to be near the beach .. also most of the construction work is near the beach area and although not too noisy it can be intrusive and makes car journeys longer than they need be. Car hire is reasonably cheap in Dubai ( one days hire is about the same cost as the bus transfer to a hotel ) and fuel is dirt cheap and so its the most flexible way of getting around. The roads are good but not so the drivers but once you know what to look for and when to be wary its fine. If you have transport and there are 3 of you you might consider a villa, for example see and similar properties on that site, which could cost about the same as a hotel room but would be out of the centre of Dubai but only about 20-30 mins drive from the beaches ( this might seem a lot but travel times and distance in Dubai are deceptive ).
