    Does anyone have good suggestions on which carriers to try and take from USA to Turkey? How about transportation once there?

    you can also take turkish airlines direct from jfk and ord to istanbul or you go with any other airline to an european hub and continue further on to istanbul or ankara

    Watch out though. TK is in the midst of negotiations with labor groups. They (pilots, flight attendants, ground personnel) have threatened a strike end of July/first of August.
