I don't know how many of you have ever gone to Jamaica - but our family has been there SEVEN times and have loved it each time. We have always done the all-inclusive thing. We have stayed at a variety of resorts, some in Montego Bay and some Ocho Rios. It's a easy to budget such vacations because you pay up front, no more expenses, no tipping. Just put your money away and forget about it!
We have stayed a FDR and it's affiliate FDR Pebbles. FDR has the *best* rooms but the pool is somewhat lacking. However, if you have very young kids (3-7 yrs old), it's the best since they have many kid programs and each family gets a "Girl Friday" ... your own personal nanny.
FDR Pebbles is a little more adult. A better beach and a much better pool!
We have also stayed at the Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios. This used to be a Playboy hotel. Many pools. Huge! Waterfalls, bridges, and swim-up bars. Great food! The best! Excellent entertainment and above average beach. Also a casino.
Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. Great snorkeling! It's also very unstructured, unlike the other resorts. You just checkout some goggles, fins, and snorkle and you're own your own! Go snorkeling whenever you want and it's just a few few off the beach and you're already in an interesting world of coral.
Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Montego Bay. Horrible beach! Way too shallow and restrictive. It's great if you have very young kids because it's like an ocean baby pool. Older kids will be very disappointed, however. Food is average. Hotel pool is very nice. Unique! Great tennis courts - if you're into that.
Also, if you're into golf, Jamaica has some of the best golf courses around. Well maintained. They are so beautiful, some people rent a cart and just drive around for the scenery.
As the commericals say, "Come to Jamaica and fell all right!"
