    Default Non Rev DL

We just got new benefit of pass travel on DL but it's been a VERY long time since I have traveled non-rev. I apologize in advance if this has been asked elsewhere (I looked) but can anyone offer how painful it can be to non-rev on DL? Or...How easy it is!!
WE must specify date, flight, city pair and connecting city for the pass and we're told if we are unable to get on the flight originally "scheduled" we must be re-booked thru the same connecting city etc etc
That's nothing like what I remember passes being (open ended one-way passes) so I am nervous what to expect.
Looking to go MEM-GEG in late June or early July and would prefer not to buy positive space if I can avoid it!

Can anyone offer any recent experiences, and/or advice?

    Thanks and Regards,

My wife and two kids will be going...I am JS later so it was up to her and she's willing to punt if necessary. I forgot to ask in my original post. For the DL folks: assuming we are unable to get out on the flight we originally "booked" how strict can I expect the gate agents to be with the traveling thru the same connecting city? For example, I think I am going to probably opt for MEM-SLC-GEG. If, on the day of travel, the MEM-SLC is booked but MEM-MSP, then MSP-GEG are wide open, can I use logic to dictate we would be able to be re-booked so long as the origin, destination, and date don't change?
This has gotten so much more complicated than I remember open passes being!
Thanks for the responses so far! I appreciate the help.
    Regards,

Your gate agents at MEM should be nice and just switch you and the family over to MSP, you have a few cities to play with to get to GEG, you can fly MEM-SLC MEM-MSP and MEM-SEA-GEG

tdrehm...welcome to nonrev.net...I am a former Memphian and former FedEx employee...I worked for FedEx back in the day when Delta didnt offer flight discounts to FX folks so we relied on AA and NWA and it sounds like what is being told to you is the same as the old NWA ID75 tickets that I used to get thru Corporate Travel (man, some of those old women could be real gas bags..lol)

When I would use the passes on NWA I had some agents that were sticklers and some that just didnt care as long as the final destination was the same....

I am a Delta employee (pre-merger) I work gates/ticket counter at PBI (so glad yall are flying here now - love that purple tail at the cargo building) and I have never had an issue with re-routing thru different cities as long as you are going to the same general area...I see it happen all the time - I really doubt that you would have any issues on the rerouting...

I'm intrigued by this... what kind of positions at FedEx get nonrev abilities? What kinds of fares are you charged, some kind of ZED?

Sorry for the delays. Thanks for the help everybody. Based on DeltaFlyers help, I am going to simply go for the earliest MEM-SEA flight with hopes of getting it and if not, hope I can get out via SLC or MSP.
I will probably need to ask this on a different board (new at this) but does anyone know (or can offer an opinion) the best days to do this? I would think Tues and Wed would be best and stay away from Sunday and Monday. But what do I know!
Sponge: I think this is a pretty new thing for FX and Delta and it wasn't communicated very well. We happened upon it. It is $50 OW or $100RT Domestic plus all the fees. I think it's available to all EXPRESS employees.
Please forgive me, but what is ZED?
I'm sure it is some sort of fare designation, but we carry boxes!

    Thanks again

tdrehm, I'd double check that you can fly sea-geg on DL. I'm pretty sure it is only Horizon that delta codeshares with on that route. You'll be stuck in SEA if that's the case

ZED is a pricing system for non-rev tickets that is based on the distance of your flights. It sounds like DL is giving you guys a flat service charge, which is nice and simple. I'd think it also helps your chances of being allowed to go through any city as long as your origin and destination are the same.
