We spent a small amount of time in GLA but will consult with Friends who lived just west in the seaside town of Largs.
I would suggest you spend at least one day traveling north. Loch Lomond is a short trip out of town and gives you a taste of the highlands.
For History catch a train east and go to Edinburgh. It can be done in a day trip. Edinburgh compared to Glasgow is as different as NYC compared to Washington DC.
