Of course as the years have gone by, I do see the advantages of the Delta seniorty system."reminder that ATL emps often do not list--they just show up"
This always ticked me off.....the way I look at it, not listed.....bottom of the list. You should list, whether a meal flight or not. Sure makes it easier when load planning.[/b]

I think I like the seniority system, better, too. Base it on check in time and your subject to people working at the airport, going on a flight after work. They can check in any time they want.
As for DL's system, it's two part as I imagine most airlines are. You have to meal list, first (which is what we're talking about) and then getting on the ASL (Airport Standby List) when you check in. The load planners use the meal list as well as the passengers booked to pre-plan their loads.
When I worked at SLC, we had a flight (727) that left just before midnight, nonstop to ATL. One night there were only a few paying pax booked and just a few non-revs. We already had the plane loaded with cargo and left a small space for the bags. About 60 non-revs showed up, not listed because it wasn't a meal flight, they felt they shouldn't have to list. The load planner was scrambling to re-do that one!

the reason I mentioned she avoid SLC/CDG is that there has been an embargo on some pass travel--right now it's only for buddy passes but it's very disheartening when a flight has 10 seats that go empty due to cargo.

Wherever you go, there you are
I doubt if it's just because of cargo. Probably more so because of restrictions because of high temps. That, obviously, should not be a problem, now. I don't ever recall DL leaving off, pax, even non-revs, to load cargo, even though that is the way it's supposed to be.
