Oh no--several are man-made. Gozo has some and the best swimming is supposed to be the Blue Lagoon. There are a few sandy beaches, but access is often rocky. Considering the tourist trade on Malta, the locals have their faves, but the "tourist" beaches can be very crowded. The one advantage w/Malta islands is that the coastline is so convoluted, small beach areas can be found with some homework. Many are somewhat difficult to access but apparently rewarding.
