Perhaps I should ask this question over here instead of "North America"......

"Under the new DL/NW non-rev plan, if I list on a DL flight to connect to a NW flight (also listed) or vice versa, can the ticket counter agent check my bags all the way thru or do I have to retrieve my bags and re-check them? "

Of course, once the merger is complete and the computer systems are meshed, this shouldn't make any difference........I HOPE!!

No worries. The merger won't affect this at all. As long as an airline has a ticketing agreement with the airline you are connecting to you will have no problem.

Nonrev baggage is usually tagged so at checkin. Once you are cleared for the flight the nonrev tag is pulled from your bag and your bag is sent to the final destination.

Sometimes when you check-in, if you are a nonrev connecting to a different airline, the agent will only check your bag to a connecting city because. This has only happened to me a couple times. Usually at checkin they ask you for your final destination and will check your bags all the way through.

Hi mayor--this is the old mrs767er from the old delta forums!! (well, I'm not really "old"...)
I assume you're talking domestic, yes?
I've seen several DL pax cking bags thru NW--as long as you have the DL paper tkt, they do the same and you can ck bags w/kiosk assist like we do

Well, I think there's a slight misunderstanding in what I'm getting at. If I'm listed on a DL flight to connect to a NW flight (also listed) or vice versa, whether I have a paper ticket or not, with the reliance on computer check in, will the original ticketing agent (DL or NW) be able to check the bags thru to the final destination or just tag them to the connecting stop.

i.e....................I go from FSM-MEM-MSP on NW and then need to connect to MSP-SLC on DL. Will the NW gate agent be able to check the bags all the way through to SLC or will I need to retrieve them at MSP and then check in at DL?

Just as an FYI, here's what I got from the Delta Travel Center...............

"In response to your inquiry, if all the connecting flight data is in one single record, you would be able to check the luggage through. If the flight data is in two records, you would have to claim and recheck your luggage. "

So, in essence, if you list for the DL/NW flight and then list for the other, it is the same as an interline flight........the two records are separate and are treated as such.

Some airlines have very strict rules against accepting through bags or issuing through bag tags for space-available travel. I don't think either NW or DL are among those. AA, will accept a through checked bag for a ZED passenger and we will tag a through checked bag to an OAL, as long as that OAL is not one that prohibits it.

Yes, the PNR needs to contain the entire itinerary in order to do this. Our agents will usually add the OA flight using a passive action code (in Sabre it is DS). This allows the agent to issue the bag tag to the final destination shown in the PNR but does not send a booking message to that OA.

You show the agent printed proof of the connection to NWA and the Delta agent can check your bag all the way to your final destination, just like we do for the rev pax...When you check in you cant use a kiosk to print the bag tag, just tell the agent that you have a connection on a seperate ticket and you need your bag checked all the way to your final destination..
