If there are any DL employees here, I have a question. I work for 9E (non-wholly owned by NWA/DAL) and plan to travel to ICN next week. We get Zed-Low on KE and Zed-Medium on DL (or of course NWA for free) but looking at backup flights. DL has a non-stop from ATL to ICN on a 777. As a NWA Airlink carrier on a ZED ticket, does DL upgrade us to business if seats are available? I'd hate to sit in coach for that many hours knowing I could have set in WBC on a 747 but with a connection. Any inputs is appreciated!!

I'm a 9E parent, with some of DL ZED experience, primarily JFK-NCE-JFK, and once BDL-LAX (when that was still available). My experience has been that DL has always tried to make room up front for us when possible. Out of about 10 flts, I'd guess we've lucked out maybe 4 times. Good luck to you, let us know how it went, and bon voyage. Btw, I'm curious how thngs will be after the NW-DL merge..looks like we may get LESS chance of upgrading on what are now DL flts, because NW almost never upgrades us. Can't complain, though, non-rev is still a wonderful privelege no matter what class.

Thanks for the info. 9E employee here, too. I have heard that DL tries to accomodate non-rev's but just want to make sure. As of now, NWA has plenty of seats open so I'll likely go ahead and fly WBC on the 747 and get a backup ZED ticket from ICN-ATL on KE (for some reason DL flies there non-stop but can't find the return back on DL non-stop)
As for the merger, good question. I just hope we have a job (ramper, here!). Will be interesting. Yeah, my experiences have been NWA will not upgrade employees without paying the appropriate fare. You're right...non-rev'ing is great on NWA!

we just flew ICN/ATL (outbound was iffy on seats, so we opted for ATL/NRT last-minute)
2 NW pax were put up front with us, even tho there were tons of seats in back (wasn't that nice?!)
Inter Asia KE business class is only so-so--we just used miles for ICN/DPS and the seats/food are average at best (Airbus 330 whale--old fold-out metal footrest, fabric seats, skinny pillows and static blankets, minimal service)

DL 91-92 ATL-ICN-ATL are only operated 4 or 5 days a week, so it's probably not operated that day.

Hal TZ, correct me if I'm wrong, but your nonrev experiences are before the "fly together" program. If so, this goes to show DL's generosity to ALL OA nonrevs.

The policy under "fly together" is that NW, XJ, CP fly for free on DL and all DL CONX and are cleared in the premium cabin if available. I know that NW Airlink and DL CONX that are not wholly owned still have to buy the ZED. So, you, as a 9E employee, would not get the higher priority code vs an employee of XJ. Methinks you should technically be cleared in Y with empty J seats, but Hal TZ can attest that this isn't always the case.

not I, but if you check Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Magazine for article about 1yr+ ago, there's a really good article on off-season travel there--apparently it's VERY expensive!

As a Delta employee, I can tell you that Delta does upgrade all nonrevs, space permitting, regardless of which airline you are from. So happy nonreving!

Hey Angcox,
We went to Copenhagen about 3 years ago. There is a very convenient rail line from CPH airport to downtown.
We stayed in a Sofitel Plaza Hotel, near the central rail station and they gave us an airline rate of $80 a night. That is real cheap for that area! The hotel was near Tivoli and other attractions. It is a very expensive city, especially for food and drink. We bought most of our beer in a store instead of a bar. Public transportation is great and we did not need a taxi at all while there.
We also took the train from Copenhagen to Malmo, Sweden for a daytrip. It was not too expensive and took about 20-30 minutes. Malmo was a lot of fun too.
Let me know if you need any additional information.

I've seen DL employees mentioning using miles to upgrade or pay for travel before. Forgive me if this sounds silly, but do DL employees accrue miles on pass travel segments? I'm not really familiar with how other airlines work in terms of pass travel on any airline except my own.
