we can only accrue miles on paid tickets. I've been a Skymiles member for oodles of years--most prior to meeting my husband of 4 yrs. Before that, I went thru 300K miles on US Air and still have about 22k in that account. I recently got the NW worldperks visa card and spent $750 and earned 25k miles that will add to my Skymiles when the programs merge some day. Until htne, they are still usable for either airline/partners. Amex has same thing for new cardholders--first yr fee-free and the bonus will almost pay for a RT tkt. We use ours for the odd tkts--like our confirmed seats on Korean Air between Asian cities (I'm spoiled and like the biz class for flights over 5 hrs!)
we shop on skymilesshopping.com and earn tons of miles for online purchases all the time. our discounted tkts on DL will earn miles but I have yet to purchase a tkt 20% off.
I know we just morphed this thread into something else, but you asked...

Thanks for the thorough reply! Sorry about taking the thread for a ride elsewhere, but I was curious. It works pretty much the same with US and our pass travel. Thanks!

If nobody minds, can I also take this thread for another ride re DL...

In regards to the NW/DL merger, has anyone heard anything about changes to policy as to eligible nonrevs? For example, I am wishing to travel JFK-TXL, with DL having the only direct service. However, as I am traveling with a 'domestic partner' rather than spouse, we are not eligible to both travel with DL. However, NW do recognize domestic partner, and we can both travel on NW services.

With plans to marry in the coming years, this wont be a problem forever, however until such time, we are stuck going via LHR or FRA as the best options. I have queried this with my own staff travel dept., who were not aware of the DL/NW merger, and as such have no further information.

Has anyone heard anything re this? Even rumors?

    Thanks

I can only find the info about DL domestic partner benefits as being imputed income (not yield fare)
You would have to fly zed fare and I have no info from your end--just our contract details w/Qantas.
You cannot interchange NW and DL OAL benefits [yet?], if that's the answer you need.

Thanks Mrs767er, thats the answer I was expecting

Plenty of other options via FRA and LHR anyway, and I suppose 'where there is a non-rever, there is a way' comes into play here
