This topic could actually become a reality for many of us, unfortunately .... Let's hope not !
Joined the industry at 16, you knew which periods to avoid stand by travel ... times changed, heavier discounts flooded the industry,
published fares more or less aligned NETT's, Low cost carriers came on the scene or simply became a bigger presence ... the benefits are
still good, just more difficult to get on - taxes aside, it's cheaper to fly than take alternative means.
24 years later, colleagues in my own and other carriers are being laid off, many with the same background as me, and the realisation that I joined the
industry for the benefits and my experience only has value to another airline. Take that away, I don't have tangible skills that necessarily
mean anything to another industry .....
Too young to be laid off with travel benefits for life and too old to train for something ' new ' ...... what a pretty picture;-)
