Default Appalled at lack of knowledge of how to deal with ZED's

So, I've been stuck in NRT for a couple of days. I have zeds on ANA, DL and now Qantas. Seems no one knows how to deal with them. ANA, I had to get flat out nasty with them after being told to go away, my ticket was no good. DL doesn't seem to want to deal with it, and it took QF 30 minutes to even list me.

ANA, I had a chance of making the LAX flight, but due to no one knowing how to transform my standby listing into a seat, missed the cutoff and they flat out refused to let me on even though there was a seat left. I was really annoyed about this one.

So....any of you folks in Customer Service have any tips to keep this from happening again? I'm thinking that with the new ID90 and myidtravel crap, it's making it harder and more confusing than ever before. I never used to have these issues with the old system.

I'll know in another 15 if I make it on the Sydney flight, where I shall return to the City by the Bay via UA.

    Cross your fingers for me!

Sorry to hear about your ZED issues. looking at the pass rider list from SYD are you initials AHK?
I was going to mention ANA as they fly to SJC but not everyday, I did not see ANA as a ZED option on skynet.
I have not used the eZED's yet. Last time I needed a ZED it was still a paper ticket.
But, I did not make a US Airways flight once as the gate agent did not know how I flew with them (NO ZED, regular listing like a US Airways employee) but gate agent would not let me check in as I did not have a coupon.

I looked again, I did not translate ANA to All Nippon Airlines when I was looking at your ZED agreements.

Yeah that's me. I'm in Sydney now. Should be ok for the SFO flight, there's 50 open in back. Unless *shudder* they're weight restricted.

From what I've heard from others, Asian, especially east Asian airlines and stations are notoriously difficult and unco-operative when it comes to handling ID, non-rev, staff travel, stand-by or whatever term you may use. And for them, regardless of the term used, you are non-existant in the hierarchy of passengers. Best option is to be always well-epuipped with a ticket clearly issued for the said carrier with a listing for the exact flight number and date. Oftentimes I get staff from these carriers flying non-rev on my airline in spite of their home carrier also servicing the route. When I ask them about this choice, what with a lower priority etc, their response is invariably that they receive fairer treatment as non-rev with the foreign carriers

Very interesting events and I am sorry to hear this. I can only figure that like MF mentioned, you "Pissed on the nonrev Gods wheaties this morning"......or.....summer travel must be KrAzY in NRT right about now. And with all the heat of summer, there comes the ever dreaded weight restrictions. So loads look good but they are not. I was curious to know if you checked into the HNL routes. How about any other station from NRT like to Denver or IAH, or even EWR. I've had issues in Japan before, seems like they don't operate like we do in Conus. They are polite as hell and smile, and very cute, but like you say, they probably JUST DON'T KNOW how to deal with Zeds. Try this next time. Have the ticket lady call their station supervisor for UNITED.
Years ago, I had an issue in Nagoya flying in from Detroit. Nobody knew what I needed or wanted to do. I wanted to go to Guam from Nagoya, but didn't have any listings or anything to show anyone. Reason was my original plan was to go via HNL whick was wide open but I couldn't get out of Jacksonville to Houston. I had to go NWA via DTW to NAGOYA. In Nagoya, I was kind of put on hold after I showed them my CONTINENTAL MICRONESIA badge, and a nice Japanese representative from CMI came over and took us to her office, and issued us the tickets. Dam Tony. You should have just got wasted on KIRIN beer and made a spectacle of yourself in the airport. Like getting up close with beer breath to female customers and asking them questions in English....two things. No understand, and beer breath. Bet you they'd find a spot on a plane and be glad just to see you go. SAYONARA!

I had great luck with ANA last time I was in Philippines. I know the feeling about rounding up a few nonrev zedtickets. I bought a few on my last run to MNL but don't worry, you'll get reimbursed quicker than its been in the past. It's all online now. I too can't stand the ID90, mytravel crap......i couldn't believe I actually bought a ticket with ANA using this method while in MNL and I bet you I couldn't begin to tell you how I did this. I remember it took me a long time in a small netbook laptop. It actually saved the day for us. In fact, I remember asking about this for some help right here on this forum and got no response. I doubt anyone here messes much with that. I try to hang with my own airline as much as possible, but when I do go offline, I prefer an ASIAN airlines. They treat you good in there. By the way....NRT/SYD/SFO??? Man, that is KRAZZZZZZZyyyyyy....I'd have a need for preparation H big time after that one.

Yup. I just now got home. Routing....SFO-NRT-SYD-SFO. 17, 384 miles. I've been up for 48 hours straight and I'm not sure what my name is lol! Qantas took good care of me, although they made me check my bag which would have clearly fit. SFO and LAX UA flights out of SYD were wide open.

Geez....I really pissed in someone's pudding....

I think international carriers tend to be a lot more conscious about carry-on weights than we do in the US.

Oh, and just a reminder: Tony. Hope that helps.
