I will not get as many correct with this. I do better at logic questions.....

1 What are the 4 forces of flight acting on a plane in flight?

c--- lift. thrust , sink, drag

2 How many wheels are on a Boeing 747?

    c--- 18 - this is a guess US doesn't fly 747s

3 ZED is an acronym for

    b--- Zonal Employee Discount

4 What airline began as a crop-dusting company?

    b--- Delta

5 After touchdown on landing, panels are raised on top of the wings. These are called what?

    a--- spoilers

    6 What is de-icing?
    .
b--- removing ice off flight surfaces
    love the other answers

7 With what can dryness of the cabin be demonstrated?

b--- salt, this is a guess

8 Which airline has a major hub in Dallas

    b--- AA
    d--- Delta

9 You have 2 D3 passes left for the year. Unfortunately you have 10 friends/family members all asking for the passes. What do you do?

e--- other-You first discard people who do not have the fortitude to withstand the non-rev expericence. That brings you down to 5 friends/family. Then you have a contest for the tickets. The contest can range from a board game to who will come up with the best bribe. I perfer the person who arranges a nice day at a spa.

    10 Who uses boarhogs?

    b--- mechanics

    Coyne your score is 38

20-38 (Wingwalker) You're observant and a good listener and have picked up lots of aviation knowledge just by hanging out in airport bars during happy hour. You have a keen head for business and saw immediately the profit in being nearby during secondary security checks. You love to non-rev and while you seldom get bumped, your family and friends are routinely left standing at the gate. At Christmas you're known for your generous gift baskets of nail files, manicure scissors and knitting needles.

    Aviation Quiz 1- solutions
    <UL TYPE=SQUARE>
1--- b lift, thrust, weight, drag

    2----c 18

    3----b Zonal Employee Discount

    4----b Delta

    5----a spoilers

6----b de-icing is removing ice off flight surfaces, although I have heard the term used by catering when removing ice from the galley.

7----c piece of bread-The dryness of the air can be seen from the way in which bread hardens after a few minutes exposure to the cabin atmosphere. ( Coyne, salt, isn't salt kinda dry to begin with )

    8----b AA

9---- Any answer here is considered correct. But thanks Coyne, I really like the idea of a free day at a spa.

    10----b mechanics[/list]
    Hope you had fun.

1 - The 4 forces of flight are:
    - Morning & Evening peak flights rise far faster than other times, enabling better scheduling. This is due to the high amount of hot air emanating from the First and Business class cabins.
    - Air Force
    - Geriatric FA's - they indeed can force anything on anyone. Know every trick in the book.
    - The Jedi. Every time you walk into an airport these days, the words "May the force be with you" ring true.

    2 - There are 20 Wheels on a 747.
16 on the main bogies, 2 on the front strut and 2 in the cockpit. The wheel on the Captain's toy fire truck he pushes around the cockpit floor, and the wheel on the "wannabe a 4 striper right-seater fly-boy" Microsoft Flight Simulator joystick.

3 - ZED is Zone Employee Discount, which is rather appropriate as it's what 91.34% of non-revvers do in airport waiting lounges while waiting between missed flts. Catch some Zeds.

4 - Isn't AA still nothing more than a crop dusting company??? Was this a trick question?

5 - The panels opening up is the bar unit opening up for the rampers.

6 - De-Icing is what happens 20 minutes out from SFO on the 14 hour long haul to SYD. "I'm sorry honey, we've run out of ice".

7 - Dryness of the cabin can be determined by the wheezing of your fellow pax as the 0.00056% of fresh air that airlines now allow into the cabin (it saves money you know) reaches someone after continually breathing the same crap you breathed 8 hours ago.

8 - You know, I just can't think of anything for this. I think a better question would have been who has a singular spoke in Dallas.

9 - You split the each D3 into a D1.5 giving you four. You then double each D1.5 giving you 12. Your 8 family members can go half the distance they could have on a D3, but you can go alllll the way as you have 4 D1.5's left.

10 - I've never seen a bored pig in my life - you ever heard of the expression "like a pig in mud" ??

Very interesting answers Al, but you missed 10 out of 10.
Trust me, getting continuously hit in the head with a boomerang has definitely taken its' toll.
