Ok, NYC. Going there in a couple of weeks for about 3 days. Plan is to hit LGA and do some sight seeing. Been MANY YEARS since I was last in NYC. In fact very long time ago. Talking around 1972. I bet its really different now. Plan to stay near JFK since that is where our hotel deal was, then plan to do the bus tour "hop on hop off" deal. 80 bucks for two days. Called the NY SUPER TOUR. Wanna hit the Statue of Liberty, of course, check out the Brooklyn tour, and the Empire State Building...OF COURSE. I remember that building, it was awesome back then, all the way up to the top, windy as hell. Left me a long lasting impression till this day. And also the Statue of Liberty...OF COURSE.

The statue of liberty can be quite a zoo. I was there a few years ago and got a good view of it and the city from the Staten Island ferry.

make sure you start your queue for Empire early enough if it's for sunset (or any speciifc target time) You can be 2-3 hrs in line getting to the elevators
we got lucky when some tourists in the NYer lobby gave us their unfinished NY passes--bus, subway, grey line ddecker and harbor cruise--freeeeebies!!
    to do:
    tube steak
manicure (if you have a femme w/you)
central park (see my nephew riding around on a maint vehicle--he's a grounds super--tell him I said HI!)
staten island ferry is still cheap!
all the usual stuff, of course--Rockefeller Cntr, skating, balducci's mkt
I love Porto Rico Coffee in the Village (I think they have a satellite store, too!)
Rice to Riches--every kind of rice pudding you can imagine and then some!

Drewmeister. I got news for you. Statue of Liberty was a zoo back in the early 1970's too. Just one of those places people will always want to see. I remember standing behind a school going up the spiral stairs. Two steps, stop, three steps stop....but we got to see it. I don't remember the length of time on the line but what I do remember is being up there on the windows on the crown. Tend to remember the good things. Lines are just a fact of life. IN NEW YORK CITY.
Mrs 76er. TUBE STEAK??? I think I'll pass on that. I don't know why but I would think a manicure equals huge bucks in NYC. We take advantages of those sort of things in Mexico and Latin America where it's definately cheap. If all else fails, we hit the ones here in Houston where Asian ladies do great inexpensive work. The Staten Island Ferry I remember taking it from Battery Park. I remember it being very windy and cold. We went in November of 1972. May have been 1971 too. Probably both years, went twice. Thanks for the information and tips.

Just been to NY in march. If you want to see the inside of Statue of Liberty, book your ticket well ahead.

Select the ticket with monument visit pass, otherwise, you wouldn't be able to have a close up with the statue.

I travelled through Battery Park. You can bypass the long queue to purchase ticket and pick up your booked ticket at the counter. The security is crazy before you board the boat, just like you pass through security at the airport.

To go in to the Monument, you need to store all your belongings in locker, of course, you need to paid. Only cameras is allowed in the monument. You need to pass through another security check for the Monument. You can go to the base of the Statue of liberty, but not climbing her. Without monument pass, you won't be able to see the back of her. Strongly suggest you book your ticket before you go.

In addition, plan plenty of time to visit Ellis Island, the last boat from Statue of Liberty is 3.30pm.

For the empire state building, personally I don't think it's worth. If you haven't been there, forget about it.

It costs you $20 for the lifts to 80 floor. Again pass through the airport security check. Force you to take digital picture with empire state building at the background, of course selling you hard to buy it. If you want to go to 100+ floor, you need to pay another 20...

I would love to spend more time in Natural History Museum at Central Park. That's so much to see and it's huge.

Meshpo. Thanks for those tips. I believe my citysightings tour covers those tickets for the Empire State Building and also the Statue of Liberty. Thanks again.
