Ok. So my wife and I are off the Sept 4th - 7th.
    I am based at FWA,

We are going to go to ABQ to visit my grandparents on the 4t. Then. . . . well . . . then I don't know.

We can go ABQ - SLC or ABQ - SLC - SAT or ABQ - SLC - PSP

    Pro's and cons
SAT - Been there many times and love it. However I would feel guilty not going somewhere new when I had the chance
SLC - EASY flight, but it seems kinda dull.
PSP - Seems neat, should be a good time, but it will be a pain to get back to FWA on the 7th (PSP - SLC - CVG - FWA)

    What would you guys do????

I am open to any other suggestions too!!

    Thanks

    Chris

How about a drive up to Santa Fe? Or a flight to PHX and then a drive up to scenic Sedona? It all depends on what you both like to do. Santa Fe is beautiful, lots of great inns, art, and scenery. Sedona is breathtaking (a couple hours drive north of PHX), very nice resorts, spas, and restaurants. Good luck with your plans. Happy travels.

SAT is pretty warm this time a year. I concur with the B737CAPT. Sounds like SEDONA area in Arizona is nice, Northern NM is nice too around Santa Fe, and Sangre de Cristo mountain area, and even up in TAOS, nice and cool at night anyways. Try RUIDOSO in SW NM.
SLC does sound boring, except around ski season. I'm a New Mexico fan myself. Nice, cheap, interesting. The land of enchantment. Casinos in the reservations, great buffets. Easy to get around and very little people all around. It's quite barren out there driving around. I went to Ruidoso about a year ago, it was a wonderful drive from ABQ. Got a SUV cheap too.

Decisions, decisions. If you want beautiful scenery you can't do better than Sedona, it's gorgeous. I would also suggest the "Pink Jeep Tours". They're a little expenisve, but well worth it. Trust me, you don't want to drive those unpaved back roads outside the city without a four-wheel high clearance vehicle.

Now to toss another city into the mix. I like Denver, and I say that even though when I was there it rained or snowed every day, I spent the majority of my time hunting for snow chains, got a traffic ticket, and the telescopes at the Buffalo Bill Museum tried to rip me off of three quarters. Denver Trip Report (kinda)
Still, Denver & their omelette did manage to make a great impression.

SLC is one of my FAV destinations! Was just there last weekend. Easy airport for getting thru security really quickly.

I went to Antelope Island last weekend, and on Labor Day Weekend, they have a huge balloon festival there! Should be pretty spectacular.

Also, the downtown nightlife is actually pretty fun. My flight arrived at midnight and I checked into the Hilton Downtown ($60 from Hotwire) and was up until 3 with people STILL crowding the downtown area. Nice Lebanese belly dancing restaurant 3 blocks away called Cedars of Lebanon.... I think.

Another REALLY fun thing (for me, at least) was the Golden Spike National HIstoric Site north of SLC. This is where the east and west got connected by train. They have BEAUTIFUL replica's of the trains and they do a re-enactment a couple times a day.

And even if a person is not a mormon, Temple Square is just amazing.

Lots more to do if you want more info.
