Got down to 48 tonight, but going to mid 70's today, very beautiful weather in Houston these days. Weather here is wierd. Unlike up north, the high's usually stay lower but here, the fronts come, go back retreat again and cools down after another bout of cold fronts. I've seen it snow twice in Houston in my short decade living here. Both times in December. I've seen it dip to high 40's in late September and sleet in April, so Houston is not really what I would call a winter getaway. Seen snow in Christmas once and another year up to 80 degrees. Rough climate here. Got snow, cold, SUPER HOT SUMMERS, hurricanes, lots of rain and windy quite often and hail. Very humid and the cold goes through you pretty good especially when the weather's been hot for a while and suddenly a drop in 30 degrees, quite often it happens. So how is it in your neck of the woods recently?

    we have this philosphy:
If you don't like the weather, wait 20 minutes.
It's the Ohio Valley and Ohio River has this oxbow... Sometimes we get the 6' of snow and sometimes it hits Columbus or Louisville (less than 100 miles north/south)
We're in the path of lots of peripheral tornado stuff--just outside the main "alleys"--we get a rare touchdown now and then.
When the hurricanes hit south or north, we get the wash-off rains and the jet stream can be a really nasty bear and we can get some really really nasty stuff dropping down from the Great Lakes. Then there's that oxbow and the valley effect.
Right now--our trees still have leaves--mostly gold, yellow and plenty green (waaaaaay late TY) Few are red as usual by now. The lawn guys are still mowing and the grass is green.
Had flurries the other night and few days of 60+. No major frost yet. Yep--it's kinda weird here, too!

I think it was SAMUEL CLEMENS that wrote that saying. "If you don't like the weather in NEW ENGLAND, just wait a while. It'll change". I see this saying has come to signify most of these United States. Clemens lived in Connecticut a good part of his life where he wrote most of his famous quotes. New England signifies the good old American PURITAN work ethic and "Do it yourself" life style and strong beliefs in religion. This was America's cradle. Where it all began. So the weather saying for the most part is significant of the whole United States. I think a local twist here and there adds to its charm. Like "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait until you come out of the frying pan by October or November and then you won't be so friggin miserable."

Gotta tell ya Palms--I'm not that old, so unless somebody wrote it down, I have no clue what Twain said.
Bet he had something to say about the Ohio River oxbow (being a river boat man), but darned if I can find it in his quotes.
I think I like the local take about fryin pans in Texas.

And if you don't like the weather in Arizona you'd better move because it doesn't change much!

Seriously, our forecasters don't tell you a temperature range, they tell you the exact temperature it will get the next day and they are almost always accurate.

In fact, it's getting down to 72 degrees for a high on Thursday (sunny, of course) so now is the perfect time of the year to visit the Grand Canyon state!

Arizona sounds tempting right now. Not a bad idea. Here it is. Arizona weather does change alot more frequent than this place that has the least amount of temperature fluctuation throughout the year. And believe it or not, it is in the GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS. That place is the island of SAIPAN. "If you don't like the weather on SAIPAN, wait a while, then wait more, then wait more, and keep on waiting because, you are SOL and stuck with the weather all year around." Samuel Clemens little clever quote wouldn't hold water there.
Now even the island of Saipan, which is in the Guiness Book of World Records for least amount of temperature fluctuation I have seen change in weather. Especially when TYPHOON COMETH. But the high, and low don't fluctuate much from DAY to NIGHT from JAN through DEC. So..."If you don't like the weather on Saipan, take a jet north to Korea, Japan or China to see the weather change in a few minutes."
