I can remember travelling back and forth to Florida from ORD, dressed in nice slacks, dress shirt, coat and tie and I would be the only person within a 100 mile radius that was dressed like that......and we weren't supposed to advertise to the paying pax that we were non-revs. THEY KNEW, just as surely as if we were wearing our uniforms.
