Cool The Joys & Pains Of Non-Revving

This thread grew out of a discussion about the ups and downs of non-revving.

We may all gripe about petty stuff, like crappy middle seats in the back of a 737, gate anxiety or BP (not buddy passes or the oil co!). Considering the price of a RT to Shanghai or Beijing ($31) Valencia ($17) Japan ($34) and a whopping $37 for Cozumel...I think our whines would be moot! How cool is it to buy a zed for $70 to fly a few hours from SIN to Bali? Or $120 JNB to DXB to catch a $20 biz flatbed on DL? Worth every penny (yes, it was a horrible flight on EK, but it's all over but the bad memories)
Maybe I should have started a new thread (Mig?) about nonrev appreciation or the mishaps and pains that come with it?
We all know the pains of non-revving--
    Checking and rechecking loads
    Checking the weather
    Checking “the list”
Putting on your official nonrev attire, hoping to get F *wink*
Sweating “the list” and late arriving pax
Doing Olympic sprints between gates to catch that backup
Roundabout routes and being glad you keep that candy bar in your carryon because all the terminal restaurants are closed.
    Weight optimization
    Being “rolled over”
Full overheads and your bag disappearing “somewhere up front”.
Non-revving through a hub and sleeping on a cot at DFW
Gate agents who never heard of ZED
That middle seat between sumo wrestlers
    AND
That low whisper in your ear when Mr. LATE shows up and you have to take that long long walk back down the jet away.

And then there are the joys--
Flying across county just to sing your mom “Happy Birthday”.
Taking a quick flight to SFO because you had a taste for the clam chowder they serve at that little place on the Wharf.
Day trips across country and a great couple days in London because you noticed the loads were light one morning.
Splurging on that cottage with the ocean view and knowing you still came out way ahead.
Thinking an overnight to Hawaii sounds reasonable
All your fellow non-revs you meet at the gate
    AND
Deciding where you want to go and not even thinking about the cost.

Joys & Pains, what say you???????

What prose!! I'm unsure which descriptions are best--this one has only happened once a long time ago:
"That low whisper in your ear when Mr. LATE shows up and you have to take that long long walk back down the jet way. "
My most recent joy was being able to personally thank the captain (traveling w/5 family members and senior to me by one year!!) who took the jumpseat so I could get on. On top of that I got exit row aisle w/recline on the redeye home. Cheers to you, sir!

"Splurging on that cottage with the ocean view and knowing you still came out way ahead."
I also love to buy a luxurylink deal and then agonize over how to get there and what kind of exotic vacation I can build around it. That happens more often than not and it isn't close to being easy. I think I'm working on # 30 and 31 to use before Dec. Guess I'm just a fool for nonrev...

Didn't you know? Migflanker worked for World Book Encyclopedia as a research editor just out of college! Let me tell you, this work made no fan of Sir Edmund Hillary!

At least, that's what I've been told. I don't know if I believe it or not.

I can't believe our paths didn't cross when I was writing my edition. Must be the age difference. But, then again, it was only part-time for me while I was pursuing my modeling career.

Well... how do you know you didn't cross paths? Heck, I don't even know if Mig is a he or a she! And I've tried getting that information, believe me!

I predict the word "enigma" will be used shortly
