Ok, if this above sounds like it could be for you but DO NOT qualify, fear not. There is another outstanding credit union that is more geared for military and government employees, and if you belong to certain associations. Though I don't place them above my credit union, I understand they are quite outstanding and some actually favor PENTAGON FEDERAL CREDIT UNION. Have I got a secret for you. ANYBODY can join. There is a loophole. They even give it to you on the eligibility page. There are aproximately 9 ways to join. There is even a list of associations and government entities you work for that are listed. But here is where your loop hole comes in. Go to https://www.penfed.org/ and on the top, click HOW TO JOIN. Then you get a page with all the listings. The last two steps, 8,9 shows two associations that you can join for a one time fee, like 15 bucks, and being a member of that association gets you membership in the Pentagon Fed CU.

If you do not fall within our regular field of membership, you can join the National Military Family Association in order to become a member with Pentagon Federal Credit Union.
    • Low, one-time only $20 fee (fee is non-refundable tax deductible donation)
    • Membership is open to anyone
    • National Military Family Association is the leading non-profit advocacy organization for military families
    • You do not have to retain National Military Family Association membership to stay a member with Pentagon Federal Credit Union
If you do not fall within our regular field of membership, you can join the Voices for America's Troops in order to become a member with Pentagon Federal Credit Union as membership is open to anyone.
    • Low, one-time only $15 fee (non-refunable membership fee)
    • Voices for America’s Troops advocates for a strong national defense, including sustaining and improving quality of life programs for America’s troops, their families and survivors.
This may sound like alot of hassle just to join a credit union, however, I believe these credit unions kick the living you know what out of most banks, plus its quite a priveledge to belong to them. Their home owners and auto insurance, is provided via GEICO at a much discounted PENFED or NAVFED membership rates. Their products and services are very commendable. I joined them around ten years ago, via association through NAUS but now they seem to take all veterans where they weren't before that I know of.If you prefer a brick and mortar bank, these banks are not in all cities towns and regions. They are reduced to being mostly on military instillations, or around them. They do have places you can go with your atm card and not be charged fees. Everything can be done online with them. They don't nickel and dime you like regular banks do. No fees for having less than 300 dollars in checking ect....check out their easy to follow web site and see for yourself.
