Default No More 30 min Prior for US Air Flights in LAS, Moving to D Con...

US Airways is moving from the A Concourse at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport to the D Concourse. This move is intended to bring US Airways and American Airlines into the same concourse. This means the check in to gate is an average of 26 minutes with minimal security lines. Bring your running shoes. Also HA is on D Con as well..

I've always flown Allegiant out of LAS and generally have no time issues getting from counter to the gate.

For me, LAS is one of the airports where I've always been happy to have an airline badge through security. Then again, I haven't flown out of D yet...

D can get tricky. First on the lower level from the ticket counter you walk for a good 7 minutes to D Security, 10 minutes, then wait on the train, 5 minutes, then 2 minute ride and 7 minute walk to gates. This is on a good day without all the drunks and broke blokes going home..

    Oh, hey there newbie! :P

Ok, so just about every airport has a line for employees. The specific rules vary from one airport to the next, but the majority of them will allow you to go through security with a companion or two. Sometimes it's a dedicated line, sometimes it's like the lines they have for passengers in first class to cut to the front. Sometimes they're the same line. If you don't see any signs for crew/employee entrance, just ask an airport employee. They all know. They may ask for a "SIDA" badge - just tell them you don't work at the airport (those are the badges issued by the airport, not the airline, and let you bypass the security checkpoint AS LONG AS YOU AREN'T GETTING ON A PLANE). If you do have one, they generally have you scan it just to log you going through the actual checkpoint if there's a question about that.

Anyway, as far as I know you're SUPPOSED to be able to get through with only an airline badge. But lately, they've been asking to see a boarding pass as well if I'm not in uniform. Or even in MSP, those turds were still making me show a government ID. To them, my badge was worthless for some reason. I tried emailing the TSA asking what the policy is SUPPOSED to be, and the response I got was simply "Thank you for asking why airport employees don't have to go through security. Employees go through intense background checks, blah blah blah..."

Ahhhh the D gates at LAS -security can be a mass of humanity or a breeze. You have escalators and a tram ride with a lot of people that have been up all night partying. It’s a long walk to get anywhere. Slots machines at gates and baggage claim -wheel of fortune.

Boss has had top security clearance in the Navy (nukes) and is entrusted to fly millions of $ of equip and hundreds of SOB's. Yet, unless he uses Precheck at TSA, he still has to remove the netbook and toiletries and shoes. Obviously, he uses Precheck whenever possible. Each of us have been deselected once but I think it's rare. I keep my seat requests separate--domestic and INT when connecting.
I am just now getting thru to our BP riders to get Global Entry. $20/yr times 5 is worth hours standing in lines at immigration, customs and TSA.
