I have a quick question. I'll be traveling to NAS which I see has a $15 departure fee is this a collected on departure fee or is it already built into the taxes on my ZED fare?

Most taxes are already on the ZED fare. I'm 99% certain it's on there, but take an extra 15 bucks.

A good way to tell is to price a ZED fare for the same mileage zone in the US, and see if it's 15 bucks less.

Well it's hard for me to tell, it is actually a ZED fare on DL, but I'm a NW employee so the ZED portion is free.
I was quoted over the phone $54 for the taxes part. I'll have an extra $15 ready.

I guess how does it work in Canada? Last time I was in YVR I paid a fee it on the way out but that was on a paid ticket. So I don't know how to compare. If I'm paying $15 on top of the $54 I just want to know what the $54 is besides the US security and APHIS fees.

Not the end of the world just trying to figure it all out.

Taxes/fees/surcharges are not built into the ZED Fare, they are in addition to the ZED fare.

I think you're referring to the USD15 EA tax (passenger departure tax) which is a ticketable tax, meaning it is collected at the time the ticket is issued and applies to any segment enplaningin the Bahamas to anywhere outside the Bahamas.

For most countries, the departure taxes are charged to the airline, and they pass it to you on your ticket. EZE and UIO I had to pay taxes out of pocket, everywhere else DL paid it and then took it from my next paycheck. If you're on a ZED ticket, it is added on to the price. You'll see for instance "Base Fare:25.00USD Taxes:79.87USD Total:104.87USD." Those departure taxes and USA arrival taxes are included in that taxes block. Now, most countries have more than one tax/fee. So that 54USD most likely includes the 15USD NAS departure tax.

Some countries have an extra departure tax that you pay upon check in; I did in LGW on US. Then again, I wasn't on a ZED; rather, I was on my own airline.

One place that I did pay extra, even with a ZED, was departing from LIM. There was a $35 departure tax that you pay in a separate area, after check-in but before security.

Those are the only two places that I, myself, have ever encountered something like that. My list of places I've traveled is by no means extensive though. There are still plenty of places in the world I have to visit!

you have a similar tax in Costa Rica and Guatemala, which is the tourism tax--currently not included on any airline ticket--it's kinda like a visa on arrival fee in some countries

Last ZED I did was Beijing to Manila and I paid to get out of Beijing. Or did I? Now I can't remember. I remember paying the 200 bucks just for a one time visa for two of us going in but now cannot remember if I paid anything going out of country. I suspect that it would be like flying your own airline. You pay the exit fees because you didn't buy a ticket therefore, the departure tax was not included. Taxes fees and DEPARTURE TAX I believe are two different stories. Good rule of thumb. Where they can stick it to you, they will. So bring extra dough if you have any left over after having dreadlocks done on the mean streets of Nassau. MOHN....oh....about the 100 dollar one time entry visa into CHINA. Sux to pay it but how else are you going to claim that you climbed the Great Wall of China? Great investment for the peace of mind and happy memories.

I don't know of any tax collected at LGW routinely. Every UK TFC (Tax/Fee/Charge) is ticketed, meaning it is (or is supposed to be) collected at the time the ticket is issued. I suspect it was because the agent noticed that a particular tax was not collected on your ticket.

The tax you paid in LIM is the Airport Departure Tax (code PE2) which cannot be collected on the ticket and must be collected at the airport.

It really all depends on how the taxing authority for that particular TFC files the tax rules. Collected at ticketing vs. collected at the airport. Paid by the ticketing carrier vs. the ticketed/transporting carrrier. There are all sorts of variations.
