So I am watching a bit obsessively how many seats are open. It is amazing the difference between the seats open out of CLT to FRA vs. PHL to FRA. I think the key here is to fly to an airport that is not a major hun for the airline that you are flying on.

Wanted to add that as far as I know, LH does not fly to CLT. I am flying US Airways to FRA.

I know that feeling. Like I said, do what you can to relax. It does vary between routes and airlines. PHL is bigger, so there may be more capacity from there, especially when you factor in the flights LH also runs. Though I was surprised to see that LH also flies to CLT (probably not as many seats though). But really, you can make your decision literally a day in advance. No big deal!

So it is the day before I leave and I am now trying hard to relax. There has been bad weather in PHL so I am a bit nervous. Hoping Mother Nature is on my side. But I said I am going either way and having a vacation gosh darn it!

try for an early one if you're already there, and have a backup. How many standbys on those two flights?

There are alot of standbys, but I am a higher priority than alot of them. I do not really have a back up. PHL is better than CLT. I may end up staying in PHL for a day. I have come to terms with that.

Got it. Well, give it a try and hope for the best. Even that flight with 0 seats. Overseas flights are prone to getting no-shows, so you have that in your favor at least.

May the nonrev gods smile upon you!

In all seriousness, I have had some pretty good luck when I nonrevved on US. Lot easier than UA overall. The best thing you can do is get as much rest on the plane as possible so you're not a zombie in FRA.
