Hey all, looking to take a day trip with a friend from work and looking at MSY flights look great going and coming, shocking for CVG. Any good tips on MSY? Does anyone know if there is a metro bus/train we can take from the airport to downtown? Thanks for the help.

I was looking to spend a few days at the Monteleone in the Q
jeffersontransit.org has E2 bus to city $1.60 each way?
airportshuttleneworleans.com says $30RT/pax
car might be cheaper than shuttle!
mind you, I haven't been lately but that's from my recent research

I took the bus... note it isn't exactly direct or express. We had to change buses at a street corner and wait for another one. My friend (American mind you) was convinced we would be mugged on this street corner... it didn't seem so bad to me, and I have a very high sensitivity to safety.

Far cheaper to split the cab with a friend to get to the quarter!

Heaps to see on a day trip, look inside the church, wander around antique shops, have a po boy, have a that drink... huricane?cafe du monde, bourbon st etc. I've been on several day trips and get bored after 5hrs mind you. I want to do an overnight one time so I can hit Bourbon st for real

Only a few hours in NOLA, my first thought is to tell you to just eat your way across the city.
Although I've never taken the airport shuttle, I think M767 has a good idea, taking the shuttle into the Quarter seems like the way to go.
Now it's time to eat-
Like Nick said, first stop Cafe du Monde for beignets and chicory coffee, just don't wear black. Then explore Jackson Square, (it's right across the street) and visit St Louis Cathedral. Then hit the shops in the Quarter, as Nick said there are lots of antique shops, but I like the voodoo and hot sauce shops. The Quarter is not all that big, so you'll have time to take in some music and don't forget to get a hurricane at Pat O'Brien's -they say Pat invented the drink, but who knows.

You can also walk over to Canal St and catch the street car, it passes through the Garden Distict. (must have exact fare) New Orleans Streetcars

Pralines--There are lots of places selling pralines down there. But I like Southern Candymakers 334 Decatur St., on the edge of the Quarter.
Personally I think fresh pralines are the only way to go.

Food-
K-Paul's 416 Charles St. in the Quarter is good. But there are a lot of tourtists, and I think it's a little expensive.
I love Ralph & Kacoo's 519 Toulouse St, near the riverboat landing. (crawfish etoufee-MMMMM) Eat there everytime I visit.

Have fun and don't forget your shrimp po'boy for the flight home

Nick I have to warn you, DFW/MSY & MSY/DFW-AA have given me more fits than any other routes. It is my grelims route.

I plan my trips to N.O. with the efficiency of a kid opening his presents at Christmas. I check loads for weeks before the trip. Carefully check weather forecasts (trust me, if there's a thunderstorm within a 100 miles of Dallas, there is a ground hold in MSY). I have back-ups MSY/ORD/LAX- MSY/STL/LAX- MSY/DFW/anywhere in the entire US including HNL/LAX and still there is a 50/50 chance, I'll end up spending an extra night in N.O. or watching flights out of my connection city.

My tale of woe

--- broken towbar, flight delayed-miss every open flight out of DFW
--- A few members of the University of Texas band miss their flight- it's goodbye LA, hello Chicago snow and flight delays.
--- Snowstorm on the East Coast and I'm in the AA's DFW hub. I got to tell you, a lot of pax don't react well to a board full of CXL flights.
--- Combination of a late arriving flight and a gate change to the other end of the T--we run like olympic sprinters, but were one giant leap short.
--- Equipment change, my 763 becomes a 757.
--- (This happened years ago, but is still vivid in my memory) A pax pulls the emergency stop on the AA tram(DFW), I'm stuck on a tram.

I think you get the idea. Sometimes I think it's me.

Funny you mention this, 29Palms

Last time I went I took my mother and two of my friends from WN. We'd been there several times but it was my mothers first time, so she decided to join a walking tour. We're kicking back with a few Hurricanes and lo and behold it starts raining rain like I have never seen before.

She gets back and is drenched, and my bag is drenched. Inside my camera is drenched.

Hotel handdryer later and she is all sorted (had some spare clothes) but alas it was a travel insurance claim for the camera

I think the funniest part about that was that you had an HNL backup for NOLA... what the!?

Hmmm I didn't think it would be that bad. In a bind I could nonrev out on WN, but that'd waste half a buddy pass. Is DFWSAT usually much better? Don't know if we will even bother, I have a lot to get done in the big d as it is
