Aviation Quiz 27 is closed.
1- I know you can ID an airline by the logo on a tail-fin, but can you do it with only my description to guide you?
A. This tail-fin sports an Eskimo
Alaska
B. This airline’s tail shows a crane in flight
Lufthansa/Japan Airlines - Lufthansa and Japan Airlines are both acceptable answers on this one.
2- What is the world’s oldest continuously operating airline?
B&D - KLM and Qantas are both accepted
As with a lot of aviation records there is a debate on this one.
Both KLM and Qantas lay claim to the title and both make a persuasive argument.
KLM for it’s part points to it’s origins -
KLM founded October 7, 1919 - commenced operations May 17, 1920.
While Qantas counters that it came into existence under the business name Western Queensland Auto Aero Service LTD Nov 10, 1919 and later formally registered as Qantas in Nov. 1920.
So which airline holds the title - world’s oldest continuously operating airline?
Well it depends on how strictly you interpret the phrase continuously operating.
3- Name the three major airline alliances.
D - Star Alliance, SkyTeam, OneWorld
BTW, can anyone explain the SkyTeam logo - what is that…contrails? S’ssss? What??????
4- Airplanes can take you almost anywhere, but believe it or not there are four countries that don’t have an airport; name three of the four - bonus points if you can name all four.
Vatican City
Liechtenstein
Andorra
Monaco
5- In 1965 Jack Grant of Qantas invented something which is now standard safety equipment on board all major commercial aircraft. What did Jack Grant invent?
A - Inflatable escape slide
6- What business was William Boeing in before aircraft?
B - Timber
7- What is the technical term for an airsickness bag?
C - Emesis bag.
Scores
Tony757 - 6
6-7
(Test Pilot)-- You're adventurous, energetic and thrive under pressure.
You enjoy leaving things to the last minute and will work on some small, tiny, part of a problem for months, then finish the entire project in a 48 hour marathon. You love to travel and like the "adventure" of nonrevving, however you do have a rather strange fascination with gas stations, which is why even after returning from the most exotic locale, you know the price of gas
MRSDS1DONNA - 4.5
4-5
(Aviator)--- You’re energetic and love to travel….ah the choices. By air, land or sea you always “ready to roll”.
You really love airplanes, the hustle and bustle of airports and can sleep on a rock.
You're airline knowledgeable and are punctual to a fault.
In fact if it wasn’t your need to carry every charger and cable to all your electronic gadgets in your carry-on, (triggering the secondary screening-- every-- single-- time you travel) you’d be the perfect travel companion.
Spongebue - 2.5
3-2
(Wing walker)--- You're a little crazy and somewhat unpredictable, no doubt a result of your many years of power breathing jet fumes and/or being dropped one to many times on your head. You love traveling to exotic places and are a sharp and tenacious bargainer. You have a discerning eye and are quick to notice small flaws; which is a fine trait when bargaining for tapestries in Peru, but a major liability when your spouse is asking how they look.
1
(Barnstormer)--- You're observant and a good listener and have picked up lots of aviation knowledge just by watching TV aviation programs. You have an inquiring mind and always have to ask the big “why” questions. You have a head for business and saw immediately the profit in being nearby during secondary security checks. You love to non-rev and can sleep through anything - movies, crying babies, early morning sunlight streaming through the airplane window - nothing bothers you. At Christmas you're known for your generous gift baskets of sunglasses, toothpaste and Swizz Army Knives.
Congratulations Tony757, you have board bragging rights.
Hope you all had fun.

Oh I don’t know, maybe a month or two.
However later today or tomorrow I’m reposting (with a little updating) a fun ‘situational type’ survey we took in the Forum a few years ago. Should be interesting to see how a new group of non-revs respond.
