I prefer my company's method of first-come-first-served in regards to standby boarding priority. If you're early, you're at the top of the list, regardless if a VP shows up at that last minute with his/her family.

My job requires me to fly (jumpseat) x number of hours per year, so it's not just pilots/FAs.

What about commuters who just arrive an hour or less prior because they were working a flight? Or reroutes, weather delays. That won't work with legacy carriers. So many legacy employees don't live at base and they have a lot more than a few bases in the US alone. You're dealing with a point to point carrier. We don't allow shirts to get preferential treatment on standby any more either. I think that's fair.

Sometimes it works in your favor, sometimes it doesn't. Flight crews that don't live in base get priority on the jumpseat, and still have the 4th cabin jumpseat as an option.

It's hard to say that SWA is simply a point-to-point anymore. BWI (178), PHX (177), LAS (204), and MDW (214) all have enough daily departures to be considered hubs (regardless whether we call them hubs or not). I know departures are not the only component in a "hub", but with 3500 flights per day, there's only so many point-to-point routes one can have before you end up having to funnel psgrs into main cities.

Too much anxiety for me! (did they get here before me? was I late?) I prefer a more level playground based on seniority. wink.
    Cheers!

NOT what I wrote. Read it again. What a moronic interpretation.
Yes, she deserves the same rights as employee spouse IF that is the airline policy. How can you not get that? I can't help if if you can't comprehend that simple rule and the logic as it applies. Doesn't matter if marriage is sudden, brief or many years.
Employee's immediate family has same rights as employee on our airline. I don't give a rodent's derierre what yours does. Gripe all you want, you aren't going to change our policy and it has nothing to do with you. (I'm picturing you squeezing an unopened beer can that it explodes, as your red blood pops out the top of your head like a cartoon thermometer.)

So its fair to get rid of the shirts for standby priority but its fair for you to travel above active employees. You call that a fair level playround? I don't know how this policy came about but obviously it was very political. At least, the shirts work for the airlines. Their standby priority was at least a PERK. Not everyone wanted to step up and become a supervisor, and give up all their union protection for little pay. Maybe not fair but I can at least see the arguement.
This conversation is not going anywhere. Why don't we drop it. Your point of view is very irritating to me, and I don't wish to get angry here to the point of saying something that will get me booted. For what its worth. Thanks for your response and viewpoint on the matter, at least you were honest to yourself about it. Thanks again.

That is a bit shady, I'll have to agree with M767er on this one.

I agree 29palms... We will have to agree to disagree. Most airline pass travel rules have good AND bad things about them. I am happy to say I believe Delta has the best overall.

Dona nobis pacem. Glad to disagree and I think your comments were way out of line, 29palms. I fly same as shirts and shirts' spouses. Doesn't effect you except for your vitriol.
BTW NW allowed shirts to upgrade with entire families any time they wanted without warning. Combination policy--best and worst of both worlds. We got stuck with 6 yr olds in business class. ARGH
