Or....imagine on a tight flight, you've been at the airport for 2 hours and Joe Schmoe walks up at departure time and bumps you because he's been at the company six months longer. Now you've waited another 2.5 hrs for the next flight only to get bumped again by someone senior. This goes on flight after flight as non-rev after non-rev keeps you on the ground. There are positives and negatives to either system.

That's the beauty of it all. If you don't like how one company does it, you don't have to work there.
Sometimes you don't have a choice. You can work for a company and they suddenly revamp the travel policies. Other times, a merger forces the change. I'm going to look for another job because I don't like the way they run their travel policy? I wish I could be financially independent. Like hit the jackpot in Vegas. Then I can tell everybody to get $%##$@!!

I've had that happen many times. Seniority is good when you have it, bad when you don't. Aaaaand, my personal opinion is that Express people who think they are entitled to bump a mainline employee can go &*%# themselves. I've also ran into this a lot. Without mainline, the only places you could nonrev to would be Fargo to Bismarck et al.

Meh, I'm not complaining (much). I think we (US) have one of the best travel policies for employees out there. Our buddy passes can be a bit pricy compared to what they used to be, but then again everything has gone up.

We pay zero (nothing) for domestic travel, 20 bucks a leg to upgrade domestically. We pay taxes to fly internationally in coach, 100 bucks to upgrade to Envoy. Parents pay a minimal charge per leg, I think 25 bucks? We're seniority based on the nonrev lists, excepting for registered guests and buddy passes. So all in all, no real complaints with our travel policies.

I like that our INT travel is now unlimited. One year I used up all my 18 transoceanics (oops), only to discover I could still fly the Americas without a problem (yay), so I went to Guatemala.

Glad to see that the personal, offensive posts were deleted. Many thanks to the responsible party (parties). I will reiterate that our airline treats me and my husband's children as active employees. There was much ado about nothing. Safe travels all!

At Delta the buddies ALWAYS travel as S4's..... Behind Active, retired, parents, other airlines. I agree that a buddy should never have a higher priority than an active employee. At NWA and now Delta the spouse and dependent children have always traveled with the employees seniority date even when traveling without them. One travel rule that NWA had was the a manager, their spouse and kids always flew with a higher priority than the employees. Even vacation passes were lower priority than managers everyday travel. When is comes to pass travel at Delta, mangers and employees are treated the same.

We got rid of our managers flying at higher priority, but given that, it was better than what I see happening now. I just disagree with unacompanied spouses or eligible pass riders bumping active employees that must get back to work to make the operation happen. A guy gets married suddenly the spouse whom never touched an airplane nor travelled free before suddenly bumps an active employee just because her new husband has more time than they? Most absurd thing I ever heard of.

Then employee children should have no rights either, following that logic. They never flew on pass privs before they were born. He earned the pass priv and by marriage, she has same rights. I ahve left the gate and gone home when I was taking a frivolous trip (more than once) since there were lots of uniformed employee trying to commute w/few seats. I will not relinquish my seat for our vacation travel, however, and will certainly use my high priority (S2) when I need it. I get 6 /yr. My husband commutes and he's typically goes in very early, double commutes or overnight to make a work trip. That's his responsibility, not another employee spouse's. If a spouse is required to be accompanied by employee then that's TWO seats taken, possible denying 2 commuters or 2 someones having to get back to work (from their personal trip?) Hogwash. Not logical at all.
