Default How does DL buddy passes work?

I have a friend who flies for DL that has never used his buddy passes. He's willing to help me with some if I need it, but he had no idea how they worked. Can someone help with this? I know there are some Delta peeps here lol. PM me if you don't want to make the info public.

    Thanks!

Basically it's a yield fare ticket for standby. Your buddy has to pay $50 to activate 8 passes/yr. My family pays our fee. Passes are good for a year and are fully refundable. Price is based on distance, taxes/fees and now fuel surcharge. Best to sue for overseas travel. Buddies travel on emps seniority after all emps are boarded. If first or biz class are available, it should be automatic upgrade on our AC and some connection lines.
Example of recent ticketing I did a few minutes ago:
MCO/BKK via JFK and NRT with return to DAB was just under a grand for RT. $25 fee for changes to destination beyond 100 miles (NY airports are all one destination, DAB was our original start but no fee to use MCO in this case. SFO/BKK and return was $850. Those $ include the fuel surcharge of $100RT.
Your emp can do all the pass assignments online, then ticket as needed throughout his employment yr. Happy to do more details after you set it up w/him, but he'll have to do some of the checking--I'm exhausted after today!!!

Thanks soooo much! I'll have him get cracking. It won't be for a while till I'm ready to use them though. Are the DTW-HKG flights usually packed?

I see alot of Positive Space Upgrades for non-cabin employees and that's the way it should be. If it's policy for them to be upgraded to make a ferry or mechanical trip, they should have that perk, and they outrank me. No problem. My husband earned his 25 yrs and I take care of him, much like you and others maintain the aircraft. Both are vital, and I am, too. So, your wife is below you? You can disagree w/me all you want. If I could bump you off a flight, I almost wish I could do it just because you're such a entitled bully. I'm sure some pimple-faced, snot-nosed teen will do exactly that unwittingly. Karma. Your nonrev world must be a pretty ugly place considering your bigoted attitude.

And then we will see a Youtube video of 29palms have a meltdown like that AA flight attendant the other day!

I prefer my company's method of first-come-first-served in regards to standby boarding priority. If you're early, you're at the top of the list, regardless if a VP shows up at that last minute with his/her family.

My job requires me to fly (jumpseat) x number of hours per year, so it's not just pilots/FAs.

That is a bit shady, I'll have to agree with M767er on this one.

I agree 29palms... We will have to agree to disagree. Most airline pass travel rules have good AND bad things about them. I am happy to say I believe Delta has the best overall.

What about commuters who just arrive an hour or less prior because they were working a flight? Or reroutes, weather delays. That won't work with legacy carriers. So many legacy employees don't live at base and they have a lot more than a few bases in the US alone. You're dealing with a point to point carrier. We don't allow shirts to get preferential treatment on standby any more either. I think that's fair.

Sometimes it works in your favor, sometimes it doesn't. Flight crews that don't live in base get priority on the jumpseat, and still have the 4th cabin jumpseat as an option.

It's hard to say that SWA is simply a point-to-point anymore. BWI (178), PHX (177), LAS (204), and MDW (214) all have enough daily departures to be considered hubs (regardless whether we call them hubs or not). I know departures are not the only component in a "hub", but with 3500 flights per day, there's only so many point-to-point routes one can have before you end up having to funnel psgrs into main cities.
