I wish I could shed light on this subject, but being a simple airline 9E (pass priveleges on NW) employee parent w. no inside knowledge, all I can do is add to the puzzle: why would my ZED tickect JFK-LYS on DL cost $90 and the return tickect LYS-JFK a whopping 326???

Possibly departure taxes? LHR has a large tax, not sure about LYS though.

I just did the LYS as DL pass rider and there was no departure tax. I only paid the usual $17 for US security fees.
I would check with your "child" employee at NW to get the correct answer
There was no tax on the JFK/LYS portion at all for employee travel--no cost at all.
Were you charged a zed fare plus misc taxes? Do you still have your ticket copy? It should have all the charges listed at the bottom left side.
Perhaps there is a difference of zed med or zed med high for dates of travel? \Maybe Jumper knows how to unravel the mystery?

I double check everything now. Since getting hit with this Q surcharge business that is finally resolved, it has certainly paid off.

I realize the fare amounts will be different for a NW employee traveling on DL JFK-LYS-JFK than for an AA employee, but I found that the ZM fare plus taxes on the JFK-LYS was $86 and for LYS-JFK it was $128.70, the difference is due to departure taxes ($18.60 ex US and $57.70 ex FR). No where near the 326 originally posted.
