Smile More AMS ( Amsterdam ) Nonrev Questions…

    Hello,

Not long ago I flew DTW to AMS (biz) a FA told me that there will be new regulations/restrictions for Buddy Pass Travelers (DL ,S4) coming up later this year.
My retired DL buddy from ATL couldn’t tell me much about it, and I didn’t find much here either.

M wondering what’s rights about it? It here a change comming ?
    Who knows more ?

    Bye Harold

Its best to get this information from your retired buddy. Let him know he can find all the information they need on DLnet.

Pass Travel list any embargoes (usually summer for AMS) can be found in that section of DL site--or he can search for "embargoes". Ask him about the new policies that will be implemented sometime in 2018. FYI--Buddies will have to be accompanied by emp or family member to sit in Delta One. There will also be a change in the billing to employee.

    Unknown to the little people.
Your emp can search "Travel Alerts" on DL Travelnet. All the other new policy will be implemented "sometime" as they figure the best way.
Be aware of new routes (or restarted ones) have embargoes for 1 yr--like LIS, TXL etc. Also one bag checkin is for a few limited airports. Just the tip of an iceberg to read and digest. All the best.
PS--we all enjoy trip reports(hint, hint)

Just my opinion. Here we see it again. It sounds like this retiree is not a frequent flyer. Leaves one to ponder how well he/she prepares the "buddy" for travel and the rules. It can give the buddy program a black eye. I'm very protective of my buddys on who I offer to and besides a thorough briefing, I also keep them updates on what the travel day will look like right up to departure. I am at their call, never bother the agent. Sometimes what looks good right now can crap out the day before.

I do all the work for our passes. Luckily, we have some very savvy buddies. They split when necessary and respect DL One. They always have Plan B or C. Several times they've flown to unplanned destinations. Once, I emailed and told them to get out of Bangkok on any rev tkt to SIN, then back to the US at their leisure. DL had just canceled BKK to NRT. That was a close call--I think buddies were backed up for at least a wk (think JN.

In the meantime I did get the info I needed.

It seems that as of 2018 Delta “buddy pass” riders will have to have a Delta employee with them when they use this almost free pass (most likely) in Delta One/First. If they don’t you will be in the back.

    Why?

My guess is all the negative PR from ‘LeggingsGate ‘
Sometimes I do think that PAX should dress up better in Delta One/First, just for respect for the one who do and FA and airline.(NO trouble for the airline please..)

@Spock, my retiree is still an (international) frequent flyer, and always keep close eye or phone on my trip. That’s why we do have plan B. I usually fly AMS>ATL>DAB, but what we see often that the AMS ATL leg is growing fast during the night before. So plan B is ready to move over to AMS>DTW>ATL.

And yes, he does a briefing (Buddy-quette, flying in comfort and style…”) and always ask me how did it go. I try to be ‘no pain in the ass ‘ for FA or staff, and pay respect to their work and even where I can help during boarding with carry-ons.( I’m Dutch,6'6" and close to the overhead compartments)

Last year on a flight from DTW> AMS the FA stopped on her round. She started a conversation with me and thanked me for choosing DL. She showed great interest and told me that I’m a perfect example for a non-rev passenger. Nice, hu?

Will C how it goes sept. 12th AMS>ATL.

    Safe Travels..
