Default US/AA merger developing story..So many questions..

US/AA will be the world's biggest. Then what happens?
    1. What does that mean for the consumer?
    2. Overlap routes?
    3. Who downsizes? (PHX)Who grows (DFW,CLT)
    4. DL falls to #3.. Where does that leave little Jet Blue?
    5. Union synergies? Payscales? AA vs US vs HP (America West)
    6. Slot positioning? DCA? Does AA leave Term 4 to Term 1?
    7. Jobs, Jobs Jobs...Who wins who loses?
    8. Latin America, Asia, Africa growth?
    9. Aircrafts?Do they need Dash 8's (HHH)? ATR-72? A321's vs 737-900?

I'm really glad to be watching this from the outside. Knowing this was coming is one of the reasons I left US. It's not gonna be good for the mechanics/tech ops in my opinion. Time will tell though.

All I can say, if you want to churn some miles for FF, get both cards and crank up the first time bonuses. They will combine at some point and you may need them...Biggest issue I see is meshing the pilot unions. In the meantime, keeping them apart until the dust settles. Fists flew in a previous merger...Don't worry about DL--they'll probably buy someone else or sell their refinery products to everyone else, sit back and grin while AAUS battle it out in the corporate and employee and union trenches. This is gonna take some time.

PHL & RDU shrink and CLT expands
At LGA things would get interesting - the new AA would give DL a run for it’s money
Then there’s base closures, labor, fleet and “seniority integration” and it’s all Oneworld.

We're still not hashed out on many issues including seniority. Still not integrated. Our union did agree on sticking with the consent degree, which means COMPANY HIRE DATE for layoff purposes, and I don't know for what else. But still yet has not taken place. In one year, they will go with our system with a few changes, but not the UAL system which is more complicated. For now, we had to learn their system whenever we get their planes we must work on, so not fully integrated yet. We've merged for about a year now.

Update...Routes where US Airways and American overlap include CLT-DFW , MIA, ORD, and LGA; and DFW-PHX, PHL, and ORD.

These and some flights from DCA could be on a list that the Justice Department would require the airlines to divest. What gets divested is usually the subject of behind-the-scenes negotiations.

Potential bidders for those slots include smaller airlines such as JetBlue Airways or Spirit Airlines, analysts say.

I am wondering what will happen for nonreving priority by seniority or time of checking? What will be the position of retirees of AA on the priority list? Will they be on the bottom like the TWA retirees? Will we have to pay for the checked bags like we have to traveling on US as ZED?
I know there are much more important issues but after all we are at nonrev.net.

I agree you have the right forum, but when 2 airlines can't agree about pilot seniority for x years, how does that bode well for nonrevs? You have my sympathy considering what the future may hold (or not).

I certainly hope that the Parker management team does NOT switch to a seniority based system for nonrev purposes.
