Some countries have an extra departure tax that you pay upon check in; I did in LGW on US. Then again, I wasn't on a ZED; rather, I was on my own airline.

One place that I did pay extra, even with a ZED, was departing from LIM. There was a $35 departure tax that you pay in a separate area, after check-in but before security.

Those are the only two places that I, myself, have ever encountered something like that. My list of places I've traveled is by no means extensive though. There are still plenty of places in the world I have to visit!
