While it ultimately depends on the carriers involved and how the tickets are issued, eZEDS can be interchangeble (i.e., from one airline to another, not from one city pair to another). Note that as paper tickets are phased out, and they will be due to the cost of managing the paper ticket process, there won't be a choice. But I think that's okay. One facility that we will have with eZEDS that we don't have with paper tickets today is the abiltiy to get a ticket issued anytime and anwhere. So if I don't get on the EK flight from DXB-BOM, I can get a new eticket issued for 9W within a matter of minutes. Today, I would have had to purchase paper tickets on EK & 9W, and probably other paper backups, because I know some airlines don't honor the VALID ZED CARRIERS endorsement.
